Victrola Coffee Roasters is located at 310 East Pike Street, Seattle WA 98122, just a few blocks up from the Convention Center and Coffee Fest Tradeshow on East Pike.
So what do you need to do to prepare?
YOU DON'T NEED TO BRING A THING! All brewing equipment will be provided by Espresso Parts NW and La Marzocco USA! Everyone will be brewing the same coffee provided by Victrola. Just show up with your mad brewing skills! Of course, if you have your favorite -insert brewing device here- you can bring it to brew with!! And don’t worry you’ll have time to do a test run of your brew on our equipment before going into the competition!
Here's how the brewing competition will work:
1st Round: Elimination by Hario V60
This will be a head to head elimination round using Hario v60s only to brew. Each competitor will do 2 Hario pour overs of the same coffee using their own brew ratio & pouring technique.
They’ll serve to three blind judges who will pick the winner based on four categories: Best Representation of the Coffee/Overall Taste, Body, Acidity, and Sweetness.
Winner moves on to finals.
Finals Round: Barista's Choice
Each competitor will choose the brew method they feel will best showcase the flavor of the coffee. They'll be able to choose from Hario V60, French Press, Vacuum Pot, Chemex, Aeropress, and Clever Dripper. We will have butane burners for the Vac Pots, scales, thermometers, and a variety of filters. Also we’ll have the new Kone metal filter developed by Keith Gehrke of Coava Coffee Roasters for pour-overs and the Coffee Catcher for French Press.
Judges will tally a score based on the tasting categories listed above and top score wins the competition!
Still have questions? Come to our Brew Competition run thru & calibration this Monday 25th at 6pm at our Roastery on 310 East Pike. You'll get a first look at the setup and how the competition will flow as well as be able to mess around with some of the brewing methods.
