Growing up, my dad drank Folgers. He would put two teaspoons of sugar in each cup. When I was really small he would dip his finger in his cup and put a drop or two on my tongue. I loved it. As I got older my mom would not allow me to drink coffee (caffein,... even though I was allowed to have soft drinks.) Yet, when I was camping with my dad he would let me drink all I wanted. So, I when I smell burnt coffee and sugar it brings back a lot of great memories. Love ya Dad!!
Only vaguely on topic, but we have a customer whose first coffee experience was a Yirgacheffe Beloya #3 we brewed for her in a vacuum pot. Kids these days...
Wow that is a lucky kid!

I just want to say that I love that this thread got resurrected. It's so fun to see what crap we used to drink and know that there is hope for the 20 oz. raspberry extra white mocha drinkers out there! And Lorenzo Perkins (fifth post down on page 4), DUDE! You win. I remember every one of those flavors from the the 'bucks days and even then, well, I'll use your word: hideous. The only thing that I can think of that sounds worse thn that was this one lady who had us drop two shots of espresso into her berry Tiazzi (think smoothie, I know, I'm dating myself). THAT is my all-time "winner". We tried some of the remnants one time and it was just rancidly foul. I know, "rancidly" is not really a word, but it is for what this drink was. Total party foul.
I vaguely remember the days of gauging my barista skills by how many flavor combinations I had beneath my belt to rattle off to customers. Somewhere in the mix I managed to make myself believe that the essence of our Hazelnut flavor was more pronounced when accompanied by 30+ grams of white chocolate powder then drowned with 20 ounces of sea foam-esque milk and 3 or 4 shots of something resembling espresso.
Oh the folly of youth.
