Is any of the the coffee from these plantations sold in Guatemalan coffee shops? If so, it might be nice to have a tour of a few shops that do coffee right. Or at least maybe a list so people can explore on their own.
How often do you have these tours?
I have dreams about going to origin for the first time. Mostly, I want to be a part of what is happening. I want to be able to get down on the fields and help pick cherries all afternoon. I want to try to break down language barriers and talk to farmers about how they like being a coffee grower. Or don't. I know I've had jobs I didn't like. I crave the human experience.
Zip lines sound like fun- a great way to see a coffee plantation quickly. However, I imagine nothing can compare to being a part of the action. Putting my hands into the soil and smelling how it is different from the GA red clay I'm used to is something I constantly see in my dreams.
Also, I'd love to visit surrounding towns and eat a local restaurants, just go for walks, have some beers with the locals, etc. I'm not looking to be entertained- I'm looking to be a part of the business I've chosen from a completely different side of it. At least the first time.
Eventually, I'd like to have a role more like Heathers. Stop in, say hi, try some coffee, maybe buy a few pounds.
