Hi I have the same roaster i think its from 2005 Paul Ribich the guy who ambex refers people to when they want to automate or add loggers to their roasters says to keep it open (black lever forward) at all times So does the guy I bought mine from and the moderator of a great site though no one uses it anymore- http://billgiffen.com/ambex/index.php. There are some posts on this forum where YM2 owners talk about regulating flow throughout their profile. My understanding is ambex roasters are too smokey for that. Im just 6 months in but thats what i know

Hey guys here is my opinion. I had a ym2 and a ym10. I started using both as a novice which meant I keep the flow damper open wide. Prior to transitioning to an ir12, I started to adjust the air flow with some remarkable results. On my ym2 and ym10 air flow when dirty was a big issue. If you use the air damper, remember that you may get smoker coffee if your machine is not pristine clean. This is not to say other brands do not dirty but that when the Ambex is dirty I think the airflow is more seriously reduced than on other brands. Hope this helps.
