Hi all, I'm wondering what everyone thinks/knows about the lifespan of grinder burrs. At my shop, they've theoretically been replaced every 900-1,000 pounds of espresso, based on what our grinder supplier told us. I've been pushing for more frequent replacement, especially after the wonderful folks at Tamp suggested 500-600 lbs as a better schedule.
We're using Mazzer Super Jollies (going to be trading up to something higher-volume soon), and as of this week I am swapping the burrs out for titanium. My question is, does anyone have anything solid on how long various burrs last? I'm really hoping to move to a conical grinder, but in justifying that purchase I'd like to know how long the burrs last. Robur burrs cost around 5 times the Super Jolly burr price...what's the lifespan like? Anyone have any comments on titanium, ceramic, conical vs. flat burrs? We're going through 100lbs and up a week in espresso, if that makes a difference.
Has anyone had any luck getting burrs re-sharpened?
