Hey all, I haven't been to Montreal in over a decade...any thoughts on the best shops to visit?  Call it third wave, culinary, just excellent, whatever: you know what I'm looking for.  Thanks in advance for any tips.

Café Myriade, downtown near Concordia University is a must. 49th Parallel Coffee, by the cup offerings via a number of brew methods- all prepared with remarkable consistency. I can't say enough good things about them- I'll probably start sounding biased pretty much immediately. Myriade is probably one of the only places I've more than once had brewed to order cups of filter coffee that didn't suck (and not just in montreal).
Lapin Pressé, a tiny little spot on Laurier avenue east that serves delish grilled cheese sandwiches and good shots of Novo espresso. I've had ABIDs of S.O. coffees once or twice, but sometimes they don't have anything but their espresso brewed via filter available.
Caffè in Gamba (disclaimer: I work here)
Coffee from Intelli, Counter Culture, 49th Parallel, Klatch, Metropolis, Kickapoo, Vermont Artisan Roasters... I think that's all. We're a lot of fun.
Café Névé: Serves Metropolis, good people though I'm not palways crazy about the way they do their coffee (But hey, it's two blocks from my apartment!- and I'm incredibly picky)
Caffè Art Java (two locations, but different owners last I heard) is not-so focused on coffee anymore, despite having been the first 3rd Wave type shop in the city. They serve JJ Bean last I heard, I've had good shots and awful ones.
Thanks!

Hi Jason. Keaton definitely pointed you in the right direction.

One handy resource is the Montreal Artisanal Coffee Scene Google Map (Disclosure: I created it!).
Wonderful! We need this for EVERY CITY.

Sure, but with some indication to their quality. I've seen everything from a one to a four listed in my city, and you wouldn't be able to tell one from another on the map. This would be great if there were some criteria to rate them.

Very true.
