Wife and I have been talking about starting some sort of coffee kiosk and I'm looking into the $$$ of everything. For grinder(s) I like the look/function of the Mahlkonig K30, but not sure about a nice machine. Think a 2 group would be plenty. At work we use a 3 group Linea and other than being huge we only pull from 2 groups and get by fine. Was looking at the Rancilio Epoca 2 group as a good option for the $$$. Might even find something good locally for cheap. There are lots to choose from on a commercial level. Regarding drip machines, what are some of the better brands out there? Airpots preferable for something like this setup? Thanks in advance.

The Epoca is an OK machine. Basic technology, pressurestat with single boiler. They're very common, so you won't have much trouble finding someone to service it. I used one for about 6 months and didn't really like the ergonomics. The drip tray is always messy, the on/off switch is easy to bump, the tray height and wand were awkward, etc. No major issues, I think I was just more accustomed to something different. I really like my current Conti Xeos but they're not very common and my service guy doesn't like it because he's not accustomed to these machines like he is the more common brands.

For a drip machine I believe the best value is the Bunn CWT15-APS Automatic Airpot Coffee Brewer. I've been using the same machines for over 10 years. They operate on 110 volts so you don't need special wiring, just a standard outlet. The temperature stablilty is good and they almost never breakdown. I'd recommend going with a 2.2 liter glasslined airpot if you go with that Bunn machine. They tend to drop a few degrees toward the end of the brewing cycle if you use them for 2.5 liter or larger pots. I like the glass lined pots more than steel because the glass retains heat better than steel. The downside is that they break if you drop them, while the steel lined pots are almost indestructable.

Just my opinions, I'm sure others will vary. Good luck in your new venture.
