OK, I'm positive that this has been covered in detail already, but can't quite put together the right search terms to dig up the discussion...

After hearing so much great stuff about their grinders, I'm trying to find out some info on the Compak lineup.  Can anybody speak to the differences between the regular and WBC versions of the K-10?  I've heard that the WBC version is superior, but what specifically are the differences between the two?

More to the point, is the straight K-10 a grinder that you'd put on your bar?

Thanks!

this looks like a question for me!

the WBC has a removable doser cover and no built-in tamper. the normal K-10 has a doser cover fused onto the body, and a non-removable crappy tamp. i wouldn't put the latter on my bar, the former is on my bar and works amazingly well.

if you want you're more than welcome to come up to asheville and mess around with it. i've got a doserless non-timed K-10 also.
Thanks, Jared.
How is the doserless? I went with Compak WBC after much discussion and help from bx'ers, and I'm super happy with it...I'd really like to look into doserless/timed grinders, and I haven't had much chance to play around with them hands on.

i'm not a big fan, but we use it for decaf so maybe i just haven't practiced with it enough. it does clump a little, but the main problem is that it's just messy. i can dose an 18g double in my basket and i will most likely get 4-5g of grounds scattered below on the tray by the time i'm finished. you do have to distribute less, however - where you'd normally tap the portafilter on the dosing fork 3-4 times during dosing with the WBC, you really don't have to with the doserless. maybe that's where i'm screwing up and overdosing, resulting in the waste.
The competition doser, the design is the difference
without: automatic stop, aluminum coffee press, telescopic press, coffee counter.

I consider it the best espresso grinder
