Just because you would not use the top hat why do you have to make fun of someone who does. I would not use it either but i am not so shallow as to think i am right all the time. I do not know the answer to the question he asked and i guess you don't either. But my mother taught me if i can't say something nice don't say anything at all.

I was told it is not perfect every time, and I have been watching every time I am at McD's most places do not use it. I asked the employees why they did not use the " top hat" they said it slow them down and it did not work most of the time. I am making a new type you might see it in the market place. I will send you one if you like....
"If I wanted something your finger had touched I would have ordered the inside of your ear."
I belive this is the answer to the Lid problems....
Thank you John. While this does not look like the one I saw at McD, i am sure it will work well.
I have contacted them to get more information and will share the info with the group (in case anyone
else is interested).

I highly doubt you'll be getting a "fabulous" drink from a McDonalds.
I simply press the lid on and run a fingertip around the entire rim (nowhere near the sipping hole on the raised part of the lid) before handing it to the customer to make sure it's sealed. This takes just a few seconds... I will add that before preparing each drink I sanitize my hands. I personally don't like using the stuff constantly, but I'd say it adds peace of mind for the customer.

"Um, why?"
Two reasons:
1. It is much faster than putting the lid on by hand
2. When customers put the lid on, they often don't get it on tight all the way around. Who wants a fabulous drink dribbling down their chin and clothing.
