I had a customer from Tazmania come in and asked for a drink called a "flat white" we weren't quite sure what it was I was supposed to make...I made an Au'lait..wasn't quite it. Does anyone know what a flat white is?
Do you have any other fun/secret dink names? I also just heard of a breve being called "breast milk" at a cafe where only people "in the know" know to order it that way. interesting...

Yeah, here in the Okanagan Valley we get a lot of Aussie snowboarders come in asking for this. One explained to me that its basically a very under stretched single shot cappuccino. Its about 6-10 oz of milk poured over 1 shot. We just make them a cappuccino with a single shot, because we make ours 6oz and micro foam every drink, anyway. Sometimes they ask for a bit more milk, sometimes not. Here's the wikipedia article on it:

hope that helps!
A flat white is an espressso drink with capp proportions (2-1 milk to spro) but the layer of foam should be thinner than a latte (barely any).
a flat white is: a latte with no foam, using the steamed milk from the bottom of the pitcher.
There's also the Long Black. An Americano made by pulling the shots over the hot water —crema intact.
Oh you better believe I always leave crema intact :)

A flat whit can be no larger than 8oz It is essentially a North American Macciato.

It dose not have to be a single shot, but the foam must be thin. A small wet Latte.

A long black Is a mini Americano, no larger than 8oz.

Really you dont pull ya shots over the water ohhh how do you put latte art on your mistos??????
Now Ive herd everthing.

I serve my Flat Whites in a 5oz/150ml cup. Double shot of espresso. Microfoam is more velvety in texture than is typically the case of a latte.

In my experience Flat Whites in Aotearoa/NZ are double shot and are a single in the land of Oz.
Pretty much spot on. We use a slightly bigger cup- a 160ml. Cant find a 150 in the shape I like :((

What's your preferred shape Alun?
I like the ACF cups...but the actual shape I like is not available in the 150 only 160...let me try and find a link to the ACF site in Italy..
