I have been perfecting some of the basic latte art designs but they always come out a little foamy. The design usually comes out perfect but the crema isn't as noticeable.  Any ideas?

Put some lighting up when you take a picture of it like photo on the left...

Actually, there is another post in Espresso that adresses some latte art issues. Read the post by Deferio. The result should be finer bubbles that look like wet paint... Bigger bubbles = dryer foam, smaller bubbles = glossy "wet" foam.

Also, I always teach to match the texture of the milk to the texture of the crema. As long as your pour is good, the two will combine beautifully!

A tip that a friend of mine gave me was to under stretch and let the milk sit and sort of sit for a minute. The colder the milk is while your stretching the better as well.

This site should have a search feature... oh...

I usually steam my milk perfectly, creating the microfoam. I've spent a long time perfecting that. Is it possible that my pouring method can make it look that way?

Jasmine,

It could be the speed of your pour. The first part of your pour should be fairly slow, just raising the crema until you want to lower the pitcher and increase the speed of your pour to create your design.

You could also be pouring to low from the beginning, also washing out your crema. If you look at my profile, I have posted a few lattes I poured. They may give you some ideas as to what I mean...

Best of luck!
