On average, what is an estimate for the number of lbs sold in a week. This includes espresso, bagged coffee, pour over/ brewed/ mail order. 

 

How much coffee does a coffee bar (directly) for each harvest? Year? First year? 

 

This is me saying...I have no clue how much is needed for a new coffee bar.

Ten to Two Hundred pounds. Totally depends on location and a multitude of factors. There is no average that would have any meaning for all Coffeehouses.

Indeed.

 

I know of bars that go through 700lbs of coffee a week.  I also know of ones that go through 5 every month.

 

You need to do some research of shops in your own area.

Plenty of them do, especially if we start talking about whole bean sales over the counter.  Think about the big two in the *specialty* coffee industry and it will start to make sense quickly.

 

My point was just that this is a painfully vague question.

Like I and Bry have said, what we or someone else does holds little bearing on what you'll need. How many espresso beverages do you estimate daily, weekly, monthly? How much drip/press/vac etc.? Whole bean sales estimates? Crunch your numbers.

 

We're still very small fry. Early on about 40-50lb a week. Now three plus years later at a 300-350lb a week pace not quite cracking a Ton a month pace yet.

That's cheating, lol. I was trying to get my head around 2000 drinks a day. Two machines pumping out 80 drinks per, for 12 hours? I've been to one of the shops you're probably thinking of. I don't know . . .

Well, this is why I was asking, because how am I supposed to know either? I think that it's safe to say I'd start off needing very little. Obviously this needs to be part of the whole plan, ya know, but it's difficult to get even an estimate, so you little bit on how much you started with and how much you have now is really helpful. But, yeah, this question is sort of impossible

Are you asking how much 'green' coffee to purchase? I assume then that you're planning on roasting it.

 

And then more specifically, are you asking how much green coffee you need to buy based upon your weekly roasted coffee usage?

 

 

 

Well, yes. I won't be able to do much with green coffee that I'm not going to roast. I guess what I'm asking is how much is a safe guess, for any time. I'm assuming green coffee isn't purchased every week. Is it safe to assume that coffee bars buy green coffee maybe two to three times per year? And when the buy at harvest, how much? 

 

The reasons for my vague question is that I don't know. I'm trying to figure out the norm for a starting specialty roaster/bar. How much is a safe bet, when do I buy, how much do I buy, how often. etc.
