HI , well , we are a new business. 8 mouth now! We sell homemade bread, homemade gelato,Homemade croisant, Coffee , specialty cheese , homemade pasta and deserte and aswell as a little deli section(olive, pesto,). We only have 10 seat in the winter and 20 in the summer. So we been outgrown pretty fast, in busy time there is alway customer leave due of the lack of seating.
Lately we add to opportunity, the first one is that our direct neightbor is moving. They have a better location since they are directly on the main passing street and we are in the corner. The plan would be to open the wall and expend and have a deli side and a espresso lounge side (with micro brewery beer on tap) 30 to 40 seat . a bit more relax and confi.
The other opportunity is that there is a the Best western Opening in the town(we are a tourist town) and the owner doesnt want to do anything with food , he ask us to run a little express counter there , we can carry all the food there from the main location. so it would be little investement, well nothing compare to open a kitchen.
So the question is, What you guys would do?
open both?
juste the espresso lounge?
juste the express bar?
nothing

Only 8 months old and a pretty full range of items served. What is your focus? Are you a coffee shop or deli? Best to stay close to your core business. Probably the express counter would be a 5 AM to 10 AM deal. You would be restricted to the bookings of the hotel regarding traffic.
Well to tell you the truth revelstoke is a small town and just focusing on coffee wouldn't be feasible i think.
That why we offer a wide variety of product. But i am to say that everything than we do its done perfectly. And the hotel part would be juste coffee and bakery made in the main place and then deliver to the other location. then this part is simple 1 our 2 barista can easily run the show. The espresso lounge is more a dream of my and my partener. but the problem is the place became available to soon. seriously if it was in 2 years i would go for it no problem. but the problem is the 8 mouth old business. We do have big contract with heliskiing compagnie that can sustain big part of the business , but truly it is scary.

I would also add, it may be to your best interest before expanding, to clear out any debt you may have from opening your current location and build a warchest (savings) to fund any additional operations. Many businesses fail because they expand too quickly. There's a coffee/dessert business that opened in Hawaii a few years ago. They had two locations near San Jose, CA. Just recently, they had to close all 3 locations in Hawaii and one in Palo Alto, CA. So, now they are back to one location. Of course, I do not know the exact circumstances, but rapid expansion is a likely culprit.
