I am new to the coffee roasters group. I am very serious about purchasing my first commercial roaster this year and I would love some recommendations on what brand/type of roaster to purchase. I've read discussions on other forums that seem to contradict themselves. I am looking to purchase a roaster that can handle at least a 10lb charge. (that's 10lb roasted) I have about $10K to invest.
I have a strong passion for great coffee and I would cherish any advice and recommendations you would have for me. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the input Derryl. The $10K is what I currently have, not the only funds. In any case, $5K seems like a hefty investment in just the chimney.Hi Nathan
I roast on a Diedrich IR-7 great roaster well built!
FYI: My chimney installed cost $5,000

Thanks! That is something to consider for sure.Nathan
I just mention it cause the manufacturer of the roaster never did give me a good idea of the cost & it came at a bit of a surprise.

Hey Nate, I personally have not used or purchased this roaster, but I have heard good things about them and the owner is a really cool and caring, hands-on guy. He's on Twitter as http://twitter.com/sanfranroaster and his website is: http://www.coffeeper.com/
He has either 2 or 3 brothers (3 I think) that all own and use his roasters as well in their coffee businesses. Good luck! Tell him Chase of My Coffee Pro sent you his way :-)
I don't get anything in return but I want him to know that I'm recommending him based on my interactions with him and his company ;-)
Thank you Luke! It appears that there are happy San Franciscan owners. What are the drawbacks of this brand? Why do you like it?Chase Mann said:Hey Nate, I personally have not used or purchased this roaster, but I have heard good things about them and the owner is a really cool and caring, hands-on guy. I roast on a San Fran 6lb and love it, and they are working on a model that is more along your lines as I type this. Talk to Bill Kennedy, 1 775 996 2280. Tell him Luke Hudek said to ask about the 10lber he is working on. It's made out of a mild steel, so no hot spots!
Exhausting ours was dirt cheap as we did it ourselves and had planned it in advance, YRMV.
