Hey guys, I am looking for a grinder for a Rancilio Silvia.

Obviously the Rocky is highly recommended, but i was looking at a Nemox Automatic Pro. I cant find a whole lot of infor on these grinders, so was wondering if anybody on here knew anything about the Nemox, anything at all really.

The Nemox will cost me $200.

Thoughts?

Thanks guys

Never heard of Nemox grinders before. There are quite a few oddball no-name espresso equipment companies out there - manufacturing and/or importing and rebranding random junk. Generally speaking, it's best to avoid them. Stick with a well-known manufacturer - lots of info out there on them.

On that - I think you might want to re-read those "recommendations" for Rocky. I'm not sure how many people consider it to be an acceptable grinder.

For smaller home grinders, I like Baratza. If counter space is not a concern, a used Super Jolly might also be a good option at about the same price point.

I am only slightly familiar with the Nemox brand, think they mostly make ice cream equipment, never seen any coffee equipment from them or know anything about performance.  In fact, I don't know that they distribute here in the U.S., but could be wrong.  I would be concerned about accessibility to parts if needed.

As Brady said, there are many great grinders on the market these days.  I am a huge fan of the Baratza Preciso for excellent grind adjustment, and the burr set performs very well across the whole grinding spectrum (from french press to espresso).  The Baratza Vario is and exceptional grinder for espresso in the home setup, but performance drops off in the medium to coarse settings.

One of the most overlooked home geared espresso grinders is the Compak K3 touch.  Essentially a little brother to Compak's K series professional grinders, it is built like a tank, has a relatively small footprint, designed beautifuly, doses on demand, offers infinite grind adjustment like the Mazzers, and will last a lifetime if taken care of.

The Rancilio Rocky grinder was really the only player on the high end home market for quite some time.  Its biggest limitation is the stepped grind adjustment that prevents the user from making really small tweaks to grind size, which is where people rightfully fault this grinder.  For a home geared grinder, the build quality is simply excellent on these.  I would love to see Rancilio update the adjustment collar on the Rocky line to a stepless adjustment collar.  Pretty certain it would quickly regain its original favor among high end home espresso users again if they did so.
