I have a Rancillio Epoca and one of the steam wands will continue to spew out steam even after turning off the steam for about 20 seconds. Any clues? Why? How to fix? thanks.

There's two types of valve seat gaskets - one that fastens with a nut, and one that is not. Either way, that's your problem!

Hi Al,

I'm going to disagree. I think its more likely to be that the spring that holds the valve closed is broken. Or the stem/bushings are gummed up and not moving smoothly. Though, that rubber seat is probably worn as well.

Why?

If the valve was leaking all the time, I'd suspect the seat. However, the seal is fine after things settle back into place. I'll bet the spring is broken.

It is a pretty straightforward repair. I'd suggest that you order the stem/seat combo AND the spring and replace both. (They do not sell the rubber seat alone since they switched from the screwed-together assembly.) That said, if you were my customer, I'd replace your entire valve movement for a full-rebuild... though the whole assembly is more expensive than the two parts. Your call.

Rancilio Parts (list price):
Rod+Gasket, P.N. 10-060-002, $10
Spring, P.N. 39-110-035, $4.49
Steam Valve Movement, P.N. 10-706-040, $39.32

BTW, when looking for parts for your machine, you should look here:

They made the machine after all... and can guide you to which parts your year of machine will take.

Good luck.
