Hey Everyone,

I am looking into purchasing a Mazzer Super Jolly for the Cafe that I manage, and would like some feedback. If anyone is using, or has used one of these grinders, are there any issues one should know about, dependability, serviceability, and the like?

It's a great grinder for low to medium volume in a cafe. Espresso Parts has the Mazzer Major with the electronic dosing which is pretty sweet. We have a Super Jolly at the school without the electronic dosing and it is great, but I feel like I am adding too many steps and risk wasting too much coffee manually, after using the doser e. It may be worth the extra $ to go electronic and with a Major.

i have one and i LOVE it. yeah, it's not electronic dosing, but it's an economical grinder and it's conical - you won't believe how much better your spro will taste.
Mazzer grinders are great, and they never give up. My only complaint about the Super Jolly is that it is a little slow. At our school we have both a Super Jolly and one that is larger (my mind is going blank on the name, but looks nearly identical to the super jolly, just larger) and it is much faster. I am used to working in high volume shops though, so if you have the luxury of time, the Super Jolly could be a great option for you.
You're hearing it over and over... super dependable, solid workhorse, but a little slow for busier cafes. I believe the grinder Terika is speaking of is the Mazzer Major, but the non-electronic version, I could be wrong.

Currently I'm working with two Super Jollys and two Majors. Depending on what coffees we are running the Majors can be up to almost twice as fast. Specifically we are running one coffee at 7.2 seconds for a 19 gram dose (Super Jolly) and a comparable coffee at 4.9 seconds for a 18 gram dose (Major). This is the closest they have ever come. Both work wonderfully, but while it's very possible to out-pace a SJ, it's pretty difficult for me to out-pace a Major.

I would add that going to a Major or ideally a Rubur results in lower grind time at a lower volume and frequency and is much less intrusive in the cafe during busy times. The reduction in noise is a big advantage.

You could very easy be selling these grinders. Four Mazzers, what I can say with only one SJ on our counter. Except that the volume we do matches the grind speed well. Your boss is also to thank for selling me this work horse.

I would rather have a Major over a Super Jolly in Any application. Burr size makes a Huge difference - in grind quality as well as time. I even prefer the Baratza Vario over the Super Jolly. Major all the way if possible!
100% agree.

Also, burr wear... we haven't brought that one up yet. Larger burrs wear slower, it's kind of *duh* point, but sometimes you don't think of it until someone mentions it. But the burrs probably carry different prices, I'm sure Major's burrs are more, but not certain w/o looking.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. It's true, burr size and speed of the grind seem like obvious questions. The relation to how that directly affects the Barista handling the counter can only be told by one who has used the machine.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already but I believe you have a choice of standard burr sets and also titanium which are supposed to last considerably longer. Also though the grind speed is still a factor with a busy setting.

if you do go for one, I would definitely recommend the electronic doser... adjustable to .05 of a second, and virtually eliminates wastage. it also cuts out dosage variation, for the consistency. bloody marvellous I reckon.
