In the places I work, I pick up things and I'm constantly learning. But, I want to know more and advance my skills up to a higher level. Problem is, I have never heard of a barista school here in Hawaii. Does anyone know anything about this? Anything, at all?

get the dvd training kit from bellisimo. Great dvd's and they will improve your knowledge and take you to the next level. And its less expensive then going to a training class probably conducted by someone who knows less then you.

Just a thought but I am sure a couple really good barista's would be interested in a free visit to Hawaii. If you put it out there as a paid round trip ticket with a place to stay someone would take you up on it. Would probably run about the same price as attending a school but you would get some real one on one training. Just make sure whoever you pick has a credible background.
Pete Lacata (Sp?) works for Honolulu coffee in Hawaii. He has gotten second place in the USBC twice. Plus, he is an all around nice guy from the mid-west. Look him up!
Sweet! Let me know when it's up and running and I'll be there!

I have a fully equipped training center on the Big Island, just south of Kona -- the facility is complete and equipped (2 x new Aurelias, lecture area, supplies, etc.), but we have not yet started setting dates for programs or advertising curriculum. ...hope to have it formally online sometime later this year with myself and other instructors, but will be glad to talk about putting together a program. I'm at the SCAE show in Germany this weekend, but will be back in my office starting next Tuesday.
And the next time I'm in maui I will be coming to see you Andrew. Sounds awesome! Can you do me a favour and sort out the coffee on Maui? Its great with baileys but i still haven't found a decent cup and I look every year.
