The last 6 months have been excellent for us. First 1/2 of 09 up only a little over 1/2 08. We are being very bullish on 2010 and have budgeted strong growth. If I was to state 3 really important goals for 2010 they would be to get our Singapore operation up and running (after a years work there, still have not secured the right location), to get an offshore roastery and warehouse set up in either Penang or KL and finally to consolidate on the work we have done in the last 6 months locally.
Goals for 2010:

Improve customer education by: Weekly coffee tasting classes and upgraded, focused marketing.

Continue to increase "traditional" drink sales. (espresso, macchiatto, cappuccino)

Increase awareness we micro-roast in house.

On a separate note: Secure location for restaurant project before economy recovers.
These are all great goals. To finally accomplish something after working so hard for it.

Marketing is one of the biggest things to gain customers. You need to get them in your store so they can experience your great coffee. Word of mouth Marketing is best, but you need more than one type of advertising.

Just be sure to fit your advertising to your goals. It's not created equal. Unfortunately many companies make the mistake of putting a lot of money into the wrong type of Marketing and they wonder why it's not working.

Here are 3 free Marketing ideas to get you started:

1) Social Media. Twitter and Facebook are great to stay in touch and hear what your customers have to say.

2) E-newsletter. Keep customers updated on events, specials, and coupons. Try Mailchimp.

3) Blog. Write about an event before and after it's happens and include pictures and customer reactions (testimonials).

Hope these help!

Stop talking about a shop and actually open it.
Finish my business plan!
That's great! This is one of the main reasons a lot of people don't even get close to reaching their goals. So, more power to you and keep me updated.

A favorite quote that I look at almost all day long (sorry, I don't remember the author) -

" A goal is a dream with a deadline"

My suggestion to all those setting goals is to make sure you associate a date/deadline to each goal.

This will definitely help you track your progress toward meeting your goal.

My business goal for 2010 is to launch my new start-up "BrewDynamics". BrewDynamics is a designer, manufacturer and marketer of custom designed, hand crafted, commercial coffee brewing systems. Our mission is simply to "help people make money".
If I can help specialty coffee retailers to brew up an even better tasting cup of coffee for their customers and then help them to reap the financial rewards, It will be a successful year.
I wish all of you, my fellow coffee lovers, a wonderful and prosperous new year! - Cash Reynolds [_]D
To open two more shops and get a handle on waste ... of all kinds... from cups n' lids to espresso and condiments...
It's interesting you say that. I'm actually working on an article about saving money at a cafe'. If you have any suggestions you want to see, let me know.
