I'm a very small business, coffee drive through and a small sit-down cafe inside. I have a customer that comes fairly regular. This morning she called in a food and coffee order and never picked it up.
My question is; do I still charge her for the food? It costs me money and my employees were very busy but still made the order for her.

Wrap it up and put it in the cooler. Next time she comes in "here's the food you ordered". If she makes a stink waive half the price or even all. However, ALL future call in orders require a credit card up front so if not picked it's paid for anyway.
Ahh, credit card would certainly make that issue easier. They were breakfast sandwiches with egg on it, don't think they'd wrap up and save to well. Thanks for the reply.
Most foods made to order aren't going to hold well, wasn't the point! The point was making it clear to her she ordered the food and was therefore responsible for paying for it. If she's a person of integrity she'll pay up, if not not. Of course there may be mitigating circumstances like she was rushed to the hospital, adjust according to your conscience.
Yes, I get that was your point. She's not my child either and I'm not going to hand out old, stale food, because I hold a certain standard, even if she doesn't. But I will charge her for it.
IMO if you charge her it is her's to decide whether to eat as a stale breakfast sandwich with rubbery eggs, throw away or feed to a dog. In fact you could ask her "do want us to throw it away or take it home for your dog?" If she answers I'll just eat it offer to make her a fresh one at no additional charge (you then at least break even and earn good will) and then throw the old one away.
