I was a little irritated when the roater arrived squeaky- and flithy. Fortunately, I've got a little tinker time available.

I imagine a 15 kilo for 4 thousand WOULD need A LOT to bring it to life. I'm hoping it's a simple adjustment this baby needs to get roasting the way she wants to.

Zech,
Sure glad we could offer some insite. Really nice when machines like roasters do what they are supposed to. I paid a lot of $ for my 1976 Probat 5L. I can depend on it because we got it completely rebuilt with all the upgrades possible. The 1999 Ambex 15 kilo we found on ebay for 4K needed a lot of work to bring it back to life. I finally sold it because I have no time to work on or rebuild these machines myself even though I have the skills to.

Thanks guys. I'll let you know what I discover and I'll [hopefully] be back for more advice. Great tip on cooling time/temp. Thanks. I hope I need it soon.

Zech.. the drum may have shifted during transport. Try loosening the shaft screws.. there should be two of them and are alan-key ... then tap tap tap the shaft with a ball peen... try to get the drum to shift forward a little and see if that helps. If you ever get greens in your chaff, this is another sign that the drum may need to be adjusted. And yes.. let the drum cool before killing the power. 150 should be good.

Zech,
From the sounds of it you may have more than one problem. Sometimes or quite often the first problem causes a second and so forth till the tool or machine quits. If your drum is not turning it could be because it became so warped and our of round that it bound up and stopped the drive belt from being able to turn it. I have limited experience with my Probat and former Ambex 15 kilo but the drive systems are not that complicated. I was warned by my roasting instructor that if adequate cooling time is not allowed after a roast the drums will warp very easy. I bring my Probat down to 100 degrees F before turning off the unit and fan that runs with the rotating drum. Dig into to it or have a friend with some mechanical experience look at it to see where the bind is or what is preventing it from turning.

Squeaky Ambex:

I recently purchased an Ambex YM 2 machine from Hula Daddy Kona Coffee. When it arrived, it appeared to be in fine condition- it may still be.

The only problem I'm having so far though is a big one.

I noticed when I started up the drum that there was a VERY loud and VERY irritating squeaking sound coming from the back of the machine. Moreover, the drum was not spinning.

I checked the back of the machine and the red leathery chain seemed a bit loose. [How to tighten?] But this didn't seem to be the source of the noise. So, I'm wondering if the drum might be improperly aligned due to shipping or something.

Please advise.

Hello,
Have any of you roasted on a Geometrico, Ozturk, ot US Roasters Roaster.
If you have what are the positives and negatives for the machines. I'd appreciate any input you can give me. Thanks.
