Hi,

Here you can post your venture ... even if it`s just an idea. The opinion, support, and advice of the group might help to make it happen.

Best regards,

Hi everybody,

I`m working on a non-profit venture to improve coffee-farming communities`livelihoods.
The first stage involves an overland trip through the american coffee growing countries. Please find beneath a brief summary of it.

COFFEE ADVENTURE -America-

A few decades ago, another argentinean traveled through Latin-America to make a difference. Today there`re other ways to improve farmer`s livelihood (those who grow our beloved coffees and are just struggling to survive).

A barista in an all-terrain vehicle (loaded with a roaster, a grinder, and a coffee machine), exploring the coffee growing regions of America. A 6 months trip from Buenos Aires (Argentine) to Seattle (USA) and everywhere in between.

The purpose of the trip is to promote the consumption of specialty grade coffees and the barista profession; offering in the biggest city of each country specialty coffee`s degustations for their foodservice market, and free training for the local baristas.

If a developing market could be created in Latin America (within middle/high-classes and tourism), coffee-farming communities could get a better deal, as they gain more market to place their middle grade specialty coffee, at a fair price.

During the trip a blog will be updated with a brief summary of the activities of the day.

After the trip, a DVD will be available online for download, and buyers will be able to decide the price they pay for it. Half of its profits will be donated to positive programs, certifications, and industry-born initiatives; in order to develop community projects, increase coffee quality, sustainability, and enviromental awareness.

The DVD will guide the audience through the most distinctive coffee regions, will provide relevant information concerning the exceptional coffees from America, and will also share the experiences, thoughts, and knowledge of the baristas who join the trip.

The expedition will departure from Buenos Aires, by February 2009.-

Best regards,
Federico
