That's actually a really good question...I'm going to follow this discussion as I'm interested in other responses.
Because I didn't have a ton of cash when I opened, and only room for one register, I just have a regular Casio. If you have the $5,000 to do the big fancy computer register, I'd imagine that's the way to go since employees can sign in and out of it, etc.
Currently, I only have two employees in the shop at a time and sometimes the back person has to jump on the register to help out the counter person so, unfortunately, we don't have a really controlled process...4-5 people a day handle the register and then the evening supervisor does a balance sheet. I have really good, and I think honest, kids, and we usually end up within a dollar +/- every day, so switching out tills at the end of shifts hasn't really been necessary...yet! I don't have very high sales yet, either, so I'd imagine I'll have to switch the process once sales go up.
Hey Amelie...Awesome!!! And really, having your own coffeehouse is quite like working in the ER minus some of the blood and guts! I've been open 4 months and it is going great. I love going in to work every day, I love the sound of folks laughing over lunch, seeing people eat out on our little patio...I love when people come in and talk coffee, and I make them a great drink and they love it...it's all pretty good. ANd the bs is just that...bs....but nobody dies.I am excited to hear about your evolving dream. Keep me posted! ANd anything I can do, I will!
I'm bringing a bag of Epic for you guys into the shop fresh (sort of) from 49th's SCAA booth. It'll be there by 11am, so come on down when you're in the neighborhood.
Sad indeed. Brad and Drew were here this afternoon to break the news. Hopefully both find something else in coffee around town. We're hoping to have them guest behind bar soon.
Hi Amelie & Barb, Thanks for the interesting discussion on POS you started earlier. I thought I'd post here and say hi as well. If there are any questions I can answer directly, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'd welcome an opportunity to help out. Also, we have a shop in your town - Simpatico Espresso on Sixth Ave.
