Profile Information:

What is your position in the coffee industry?
barista trainer, industry professional
How many years have you been in the industry?
10
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
About Me:
I started working in the industry as a coffee pourer, there was not much in the way of specialty coffee at the time. I was lucky to land my first job working for Bill and Charlie Fishbein at the Coffee Exchage in Providence. Bill went on to start Coffee Kids and Charlie still runs his very cool cafe on Wickenden Street. During college I worked for Coffee Connection and had the opportunity to work for and train with Mr. Howell. I did what most kids do with a major in English and moved to NYC and started cutting hair. After 8 years as a hairdresser I decided to call it quits and landed a job with an old friend who had just started his own roastery. 5 years later we are a happily growing company trying to elevate coffee here on the East Coast. Wish us luck.

Gearing up for the Mid Atlantic Northeast Barista Jam in Easton PA. March 5th-7th.
Shaping up to be an incredible event with some great presenters, lots of open jam sessions...
If you want to be added to the contact list or want more information let me or the man above with the fists of filters know.

gerra, thanks for the heads up, we've got two registrations in the mail from phoenix. I asked devlin about this but i'll ask you as well, do you know about any alternative sleeping arrangements for poor barista kids? we're looking for couch/floor back of the van kind of things. thanks.

Hey Gerra, thanks for all the help this weekend...ask me about roast boy if I don't bring it up....
  • Phil Proteau

Hi Gerra, you are my best coffee friend from DC! I am about to open my box from New Harvest to see if the beaker is the right size. Here goes. Oh crap, right diameter but too tall. The plunger doesn't go down far enough. Oh well.
  • Phil Proteau

Gerra, you are the Hostess of the Century. Thanks for all your hard work, the Jam was fantastic, and you are a big wedge in that pie. Let me know the next time you need to go pick up 20 gallons of coffee again.
  • Tim Noble

The Jam was flawless (coffeeless Thursday was a great idea) and I am enjoying some great coffee today from New Harvest- thanks to Devlin for the hook-up!
I am looking forward to picking your brain over the next few weeks- if you've got the time...
Thanks for the great work, Gerra. It's much appreciated.
  • Benjamin H Wilkinson

I'm a little late on the compliments, but, the jam was jam-tastic. Thank you for all of your amazing work.

I'd love to hear what's going on up at NHCR lately and, would like to take a trip out sometime soon, maybe between NERBC and SCAA.

    Bestest, bhW

    Gerra -
Did you ever get around to roasting more of that blend we used for the easton sprodown? Please let us know when you do!
  • Rich Westerfield

We'll have a team of three in Ithaca. See you there!
  • Rich Westerfield

Got the blend on Friday, it's pouring beautifully, thank you and thank Devlin for us!
  • wiggles

i still owe you a beer- will you be making an appearance in ithaca?
  • Tim Hirzel

    Hey Gerra,
It was great fun meeting you and your gang too. When I next explore that area (it is included in our post-Ithaca housing search), I will definitely stop by. I am also continuing to enjoy the Devlin Competition Blend (DCB)! Only now after all the training, I am 10 times more critical of my own shots and over-thinking everything (No dark brown ring on this milky cappa! egads, no flecking! bleck! who made this anyways?) . It'll take some time to get my groove back. Thanks for the BX invite.

Gerra, I found you because of your post about coffee in Providence. Where would you go for an outstanding latte. I tend to go to Coffee Exchange almost every day and hope to get one of the folks that really know their stuff. My friend Helena Parmentier works there and she is fantastic, make some of the best that I have ever tasted. Also, a friend and I started a Providence/RI food site called ProvidencePalate.com, it's been a lot of fun and I have met some other quite passionate foodies there. Best, Seth

What's up in the greatest little state in the Union, G?
I'm struggling. Still working toward BEGINNING build out.
We're having a boy in September, so that's cool! Not that it matters, you know, blah blah. Give Devlin a 'hello' for me, and I hope we get as chance to coffee together again soon, maybe up there?
Shoot me a note with some good places to stay, if you've got the time.
  • Tim Noble

The family will be in tow, yep. That means meals at places the kid can freak out in, and early nights. I plan on getting away this summer, but not until I get the go ahead with buildout. Keep your fingers crossed, and you'll see the Noble clan soon enough!
    Enjoy the long weekend!
