11 years food service, past four as a barista
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
For the past four years I have been with the ithaca coffee company. a very small shop to begin has grown tremendously over my time with them. For the past two years I have been responsible for managing our cafe, and training all of our employees. I have just opened our companies second cafe and have gone through a round of training for new staff. I would be interested in working with other trainers around the country to share insights gained and methods employed.
***********************************************************
I have just finished my first week as roaster and green coffee buyer!
Change is a good thing.
I will be tackling all of our roasting along with my management and training responsibilities, as well as being the lead quality control.
I will spend my time "like the octopus who plays the drums" reaching simultaneously all over the place and keeping a perfect rhythm.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
I would be interested to travel anywhere invited, and would graciously host a fellow barista from anywhere in the world.
About Me:
Out of high school I had the idea that I would like to be a chef soo... I attended the Culinary Institute of America. while there I went on internship to new orleans for six months. After I finished that program I went out to aspen and worked a six month stint there. Which lead me to delve deeper into my interests in baking. I went back to the CIA this time in the Napa valley for my baking certificate. several short stints later and around the country led me back to my hometown and to an opening at my favorite gourmet market. After a short training period I was put on the espresso bar and haven't looked back since. Last year was my first foray into the competitive world. I got the opportunity to compete int e millrock latte art event in chicago, and the first ever NERBC. Look for me this year in DC, My hometown for the second NERBC, and in Minneapolis.
About My Company:
The Ithaca Coffee Company is the oldest coffee roaster in ithaca. we have been roasting in town since 1984. five years ago the company changed hands and expanded to a new location at which time they added a cafe, and a new roaster. Our store is a gourmet market carrying everything that entails as well as being our roastery. early last year we opened our second location in which the cafe is a much larger focus.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
Hey Chris! I look forward to meeting you as well. I laughed when I saw your note about the Lavazza link. Sometimes when I type it fast Ill forget the "s", LOL! Take care and I'll see ya soon.
Cool. Will see you there! Just read your post about breaks... Sounds confusing and frustrating! You sounded thoughtfull and professional I thought. I hope a balance can be reached.
