    Welcome to bX!

Hey Dustin. I know you are looking for a roaster. I would live to have a phone conversation with you concerning this. I think I can really help you out. I once managed a small cafe and have been where you are. I now am a roaster and have a lot of nsight frm this side of the bean. I am going to send you a friend request. If you'd like to talk, simply accept. If not, no prob. Know that I amnot going to talk to u to just give a sales pitch. I know some great roasters and can tell you what I know. Good luck either way.

Hey Dustin - Welcome back to the East Bay. We are out in Pittsburg... a 20 min drive from Martinez. Come by and say HI sometime.
  • Adrian Badger

Hi Dustin - give me a call sometime (# on the website) and let me know when you'll be back. You can give the Synesso a whirl.
  • Adrian Badger

Hi Dustin - Sorry about the late reply, I don't check this site too often. I will be around most of the morning Friday but am not available after 2pm. You're welcome to drop by anytime. - Adrian.

It seems we are permanently connected by coffee!

Yerp. Doing all the training and other quality control things. Which reminds me, may I pick your brain? Anything drinkwise you think I should work on with Cups? Any process stuff (like say wiping out the portafilters before every shot) that you did and think it would have been great if everybody did? I know it's hard for you to have strong opinions on this subject- hahah- but if you would give me your free advice, it would mean alot to me. The baristas you trained are some of the best drinkmakers in the stores. So THANKS! for already making my job easier.

  • Susanne Resnick

Thank you, thank you for being the first to welcome me to a whole new world of barista awesomeness! :) I wish I could take credit for the rosetta, but I cannot...check out the card underneath the cup, that was my latte from Holy Cow in Sebastopol.
  • Susanne Resnick

Yeah, Holy Cow's pretty new, and have yet to find their rhythm it seems, but because i'm (Starbucks) trained for the most part I have very little experience with manual machines so one of the owners showed me a few things, which was so nice of her. And the latte was great! Maybe I'll come by your shop tmrw, I just happen to be off. Or I'll catch you another time if youre not there ;)
  • Susanne Resnick

Nah, I haven't stopped in just yet! What's your schedule like over the weekend or next week? :)
  • Susanne Resnick

Sunday I should be able to come in, I don't work til 3:30. Hopefully I'll be able to recognize you! lol j/k
  • Susanne Resnick

Think about what drink you're gonna make me!! :)
  • Susanne Resnick

I was thinking cappuccino!!! You read my mind.

Thanks Dustin I enjoy roasting with it. What are you roasting with now? Have you registered for H-B or just been reading through the archives? Your roasting obsession will be welcome. We freely discuss everything roasting.
  • Alex Snow

Hey Dustin! Thanks for the shout out! Come visit us when we open up shop on Pacific Avenue on November 19th!
  • Corinne Golabek

    hello there :)

it's getting quite chilly ! how are the states ?

  • Alex Snow

    Dustin,
VCR has just opened up a warehouse facillity on Bronson St in Santa Cruz' Midtown where they will be roasting larger volumes of green beans/ new office space/ cupping lab/ mini storefront where you can get cappuccino's and Hario woodneck pour overs on the fly! So to answer your question, the Pacific St store will be number three in the place to be!
  • Stephen Cadieux

I am getting more excited by the minute. Thanks for the info! I will let you know how it turns out.

  • Stephen Cadieux

Haha thanks for the warning! Yeah I have had experience with roasting, but a lot of it was on other folks' equipment. Now that I am in the market for a roaster for my own personal use, and I am in a position to be taking my roasting to the next level, I think that getting a genecafe or even a hottop would be a waste of money. My thought process is that I should get something that is going to allow me to really sharpen my roasting skills over the long run, rather than force me to plateau after a few weeks or months.
