Anchorage, US

3 years

yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
Ever since I came up to Alaska 6 years ago with the Army I was introduced to REAL coffee shops and my curiosity began about coffee. Eventually I worked at Kaladi Brothers (the greatest coffee shop ever!), and found my new calling as a Barista. Ever since then (2 or 3 years ago) I've wanted to go back and work at a coffee shop and compete the barista championships. Kind of hard to do when you are set with bills that need to be paid ... ;( But that' where I stand.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
Italy, Iceland, South America....i guess anywhere. I love learning about other cultures.
About Me:
I am Hispanic American (panamanian, colombian, dominican, and italian from what i know..lol) I was born in Queens, NY and raised in Brooklyn. Moved to Florida and joined the Army there. Alaska has always been my dream place to live and luckily i moved up here and married my husband from Alaska. We plan to stay here for a long time. We love it up here. I now am out of the Army and work full time as a System Administrator for the government. Have a doxie (my baby) Alphy and no kids. I love to make coffee, play video games, and watch movies. I like to do outdoor activities: camp, hike, fishing, and try new things.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
Barista, good Customer service, and latte art

I read your blog posts. My advice is to travel to as many top shops and roasters as you can. Learn learn learn. Read about how coffee is grown, processed, roasted... how cultivar, processing, roasting, climate, etc,... affect taste. Learn proper brewing techniques. Practice practice practice!! Uf you are wanting to compete, you should go for it!! But know that in order to do well you need to really work hard at it. Only the #1 barista in the US can go on to compete at the world level. That is an amazing goal, but a very steep climb. Try to connect with come other competitors and see if they will let you practice with them. Good Luck!! I know that I just said a lot. Don't rush things. Take your time and have fun. If you are truly going to make a career of this, you've got time!
