Mainly a roaster, but partner in the shop. Learning as a barista and hoping to learn some tricks of the trade to serve the best cup possible and educate our customers about coffee.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
South America, mostly. Caribbean. Planning a trip this fall to Bhutan. Last year visited Patagonia. recently visited New England, where I haven't been before.
About Me:
Recently retired after 35 years as a wildlife- fisheries biologist in Alaska, having worked from the Arctic to the tropics. Salmon mostly. Started roasting specialty coffees 4 years ago. Former Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia, I want to continue to support and promote coffee growing communities and educte consumers on the source of their beverage.
Ski, bike, snwoshoe and handle a search and rescue dog.
About My Company:
Girdwood Coffee Company is an espresso bar inside our local bookstore. We have a few comfortable chairs, WI-FI and good conversation. In business since 11/07. Our motto is "Drink Locally, Act Globally". Girdwood is a small ski resort town about 40 miles from Anchorage. Lots of ski bums, tourists, but a great place to live and raise kids. Close knit community.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
I´m new on the barista exchange platform and come from Hamburg/Germany. You mentioned in a comment an few weeks ago that you roast on a Diedrich. I intend to buy a IR-12 for a new shop in Hamburg. We have two shops and roast our coffee in a small hot air roaster. Perhaps you can give me your opinion to the Diedrich mashines.
