What is your position in the coffee industry?
barista, manager, coffee shop owner, coffee enthusiast
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
Vancouver, WA
How many years have you been in the industry?
8
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
I have been a barista for eight years, six of which I have used Stumptown Coffee Roasters. I own my own shop called Mon Ami and we have been open three years.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
Anywhere there is good food and coffee. I am just as passionate about food as I am about coffee. So anywhere I could find both, would be my own little slice of heaven :)
About Me:
I have a dog named Lucy, drink too much, and enjoy food to unhealthy levels. I went to school to become a baker and pastry chef, finished, and then went off on coffee. I still love cooking and baking, but my number one passion is coffee. I have worked every job in the restaurant industry from bar tending to washing dishes to cooking to managing to owning. I love it and couldn't see myself doing anything else.
About My Company:
We are a creperie and coffee shop in downtown Vancouver. Vancouver is not known for it's coffee culture, or any culture for that matter, but we are trying to change that, one latte at a time.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
Developing my palate and the ability to learn new things every day

DQ'd for time, I am going to go commit barista suicide and have a McCaffe

Oh man, I cannot even begin to say how heartbroken I am right now. yeah it was only my second competition, but holy hell 16:23? I am going to go get plastered and hopefully make it to the end tomorrow without crying. At least I know that in that time I fucking nailed my performance, it was everything I wanted to say and I feel the coffee rocked. My shots were coming out so good. If anyone knows where I can see the performance, I know it was streaming online, I just want to look at it. there's… Continue

has anyone worked on a Mahlkonig grinder before? I am going to try it out for the competition, and I was just wondering...

Vancouver goodness anyone?

So I'm just throwing it out there, but how many baristas would actually make the trek over the bridge of many frustrations for a Vancouver Tamp your face off? I would totes be the hostess with the mostess with wonderful food and beer. Then I also have a two group La Marzocco, two Mazzers, one a super Jolly, and enough room for break dancing, depending on how many beers I have. I am thinking April at the earliest, so give me some feedback!

I'm number 2! I'm number 2!

I just got the line up for the USBC and I'm going second at 9:32 in the am. I'm actually really excited about my time because it's before anyone is really going to get there, I won't have a huge audience, and I can totally focus on channeling Tom Cruise from cocktail. Seriously though, I'm really amped, I was on the waiting list until yesterday and I have been practicing since regionals for this. If anyone can make it out at 9:30, of coarse if you aren't working, there will be a team Mon Ami… Continue

Why I hate people

Posted on February 23, 2009 at 7:01pm 8 Comments

I know I should not own a coffee shop if I don't get along with people, but it's only certain kinds of people. For example, the homeless guy that comes in and steals all the toilet paper in our bathroom when I'm not looking, what the french toast? Or today, This woman came in and said, 'oh, I heard you have great coffee, I'm so excited to try it!' Awesome i thought, I'll make her an 8oz latte, she'll love it. She then proceeded to order a 16oz decaf, NF, 210 degree, SF Irish cream, no foam… Continue

Hey, thanks for all that fun! I held up a lot better at this tamp off than I did at the last one I was at! When is the Latte Art comp? Not that I'll win, but it would be awesome to hang out with y'all again. <3 M.

So, this sounds dumb. But for some reason I thought you meant a music throw down. Whoops. Still love to come and observe some barista throwing down. Pretty sure I would be schooled.
