Profile Information

What is your position in the coffee industry?
coffee roaster, coffee enthusiast
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
Bowling Green, KY (USA)
How many years have you been in the industry?
9 Months
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
We are just simple roasters for our local community. We have three roasters in our garage and we roast at the end of the week so that our coffees are fresh for our local farmer's market on Saturdays and we supply a local coffee shop. We are just getting started and have SO much to learn. We heard of Barista Exchange on the ABC school podcast. I think this is great way to learn! We are always looking for dependable green (organic/fair trade) coffee importers - thought this might be a good place to meet others!
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
We are both interested in visiting South American coffee farmers!
About Me:
Greener Groundz, LLC. co-owners are Benita Bartley and Molly Kerby.

Benita:
I am employed by a large consumer products corporation in an upper management position. I have a strong background in continuous improvement strategies, self-directed work teams and high employee involvement (especially empowering women in leadership). I have a BS in Organizational Leadership from Mid-Continent University in KY.

I have a passion for animal welfare. I'm an active member of our local humane society. I am currently serving my fourth year as President of the Board of Directors. I'm also an environmentalist and a member of our local "green" non-profit organization.

My goal is to become a coffee shop owner in the next two years.

Molly:
I am a faculty member in the Women's Studies program at Western Kentucky University. I have a BA in Sociology and Environmental Science, an MPH in Community Health Education, and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Foundations. My primary teaching and research interests are in the area of social justice, social change, and activism. I am an avid environmentalist and the co-founder of our local "green" not-for-profit.

I am also a musician and play with a group of ladies called Just Us. I love to garden, cycle, and kayak - when I have time!
About My Company:
Greener Groundz, LLC., is dedicated to roasting only the finest quality coffee beans. All of our beans are 100% organic and always fairly traded. The beans are purchased from a wholesaler who sells only Specialty Grade coffees. All shipments are cupped and checked upon arrival. We are very careful to select only the best of those available. Each roast is carefully perfected to enhance the natural flavor of the beans.

Each of our coffees are named after our pack of Greener Houndz. Chloe's Casa Blend, Buddy's Bark, and Buster's Brawn are named after our Jack Russell Terriers. The others are named after our friends' & families' dogs who are also near and dear to our hearts. All of our coffees are 100% organic and fairly traded.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
We could combine our love of fresh coffee, social justice, and rescuing animals!

Hello guys, thanks for the add as a friend. Are you based in the "Bowling Green" that is mentioned in the Nelson DeMille book "Spencerville"? The name has always intrigued me!

We are pretty much commited to using all our Sumatran growers crop ourselves at present. However we are working alongside OXFAM in Eastern Papua with 3 sub-origins (in Indonesian Papua). If you are keen to try some samples from this area, let me know. Two of the origins are excellent, the third produces solid Arabica, but no where near as good as the other two. Let me know and I can ask the Oxfam guys to send samples. Our plan is to have a website upand running- promoting direct trade. OXFAM will be the umbrella organisation which will direct continued development of this region.
