I'm in Banker's Hill, myself! Not everybody in SD has the appreciation for coffee as in other regions, but Bird Rock is definitely the place to go! There are other roasters, but Chuck as set a standard that all others fall short of. I roasted and managed a cafe in east village, Java Jones (now closed), but if I want coffee in this area, I go to InFlux in Little Italy (the service is hit and miss) or to Peet's in Hillcrest. You will on occasion run into Rob Halford from Judas Priest, which is one of the other reasons I go there!

I have found a place to get a cup of Stumptown. A bar in east village named "The Neighborhood" serves it on drip. The fact that they have Stumptown ship coffee to them in San Diego says everything you need to know about not only the establishment, but the owner as well.

Anytime you're in Bird Rock, I'd be glad to make you what ever you'd like on pour over. We usually have Panama Geisha and Nicaragua Cup of Excellence #8 available among other great varietals!

Java Jones closed in October. I think of it as one who loses in chess. While the player might be great, a series of bad moves will end the game. It was, however, the perfect spot for a roaster/cafe. From what I gather, the place that it has now become isn't doing too well. The Java Jones owner definitely had something going for him and I will be paying close attention to his future ventures!

I hope you enjoy your visit in Seattle! I will be there at the end of March and can't wait to have the coffee experience I once took for granted! I will have a lot to do in a very short time, so I have a list of cafes with Victrola being one of them. Trabant on 45th street in the U district (at least when I was there last) has a Clover and fantastic coffees to enjoy. It's impossible to have Clover coffee in San Diego!
