At approximately 5:40pm on Jan. 30th, I drank my last cappuccino — this one in a sad little 8 oz. paper cup — at the coffee shop where I practically lived for the last three years. I was a customer for some time at Eurotazza in Fort Worth, and then fate would have it that I would become a barista there for just shy of a year’s time. We were closing our doors on that day, with no idea if the name would ever resurface in a future location. Only some of us had any type of work lined up, and I think we all were gazing at the crush of final orders in the packed space with a mix of disbelief, awe, anger, and sadness. Starbucks hadn’t necessarily “won” but this particular battle to show the masses that the Green & White giant was not the end all be all in coffee was over for our rag-tag crew of 8 coffee snobs. We knew we had raised the bar for the coffeehouse concept in our city…so why did we feel so deflated? I know I did on that day, and still do...I hope to bust out some latte art in Dallas by the end of the spring or early summer.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
any and all - i have been to England...France, Ireland and Italy are a dream, and I want to go to Panama, Guatemala and Africa strictly for coffee reasons.
