I started at 18 (1989) working at a push cart inside a hospital, and then on the streets of downtown Seattle. This was more or less at the beginning of the widespread espresso revolution, when Starbucks was just starting out. Maybe they had 30-40 stores back then. I loved that open air environment and the simplicity of the business then. We had a semi-auto espresso machine and grinder on a cart + a water kettle for Melita drip, and a basket of baked goodies out. That's it! A year later, I opened my own cart and soon hit on the drive-thru trend. We ended up opening 18 stores and about 5 years in started roasting. Now, we're getting back to basics, scaling down our retail stores and focusing on the coffee. Our coffee (Silver Cup Coffee) has won a bunch of awards, and is really exceptional, so we'll continue to help our clients get started in the business the right way, and proselytize great coffee everywhere. Viva la Revolution!
