What is your position in the coffee industry?

    barista

Where are you located? ( City and Country )

    Chicago, United States

How many years have you been in the industry?

    About three months

If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?

    yes

Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.

It all started with being trained at Noble Tree Coffee and Tea in Lincoln Park. That's when I absolutely fell in love with the complexity of espresso, coffee, the whole works. While I think the latte art aspect is intriguing and I love doing it, I find the perfect espresso shots, the roasteries, and the blends to be what makes coffee the greatest.

What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?

While Chicago is a great place to be a barista, I have always been attracted to the West Coast, primarily Washington and northern California. They would would be great places to further my skills.

    About Me:

I'm Emma, as my profile says. I started getting into coffee recently (beginning summer 2010). I am a creative writing major, but currently I'm taking a year off to be a barista and to write in Chicago. I lived in Boston for a year and, while it was awesome to live in the heart of the city and go to school there, it wasn't the right fit. Thus, I am currently looking elsewhere while pursuing my other interests.

    About My Company:

I work at The Other Brother Coffeehouse in Evanston. John, one of the managers of The Brothers K recently opened a new shop in downtown Evanston and, since opening, I've been having an amazing experience working alongside him and the new staff. The company is passionate about making espresso right and the company that provides us the beans (Metropolis) cares about the production and process of the blends. It's community-oriented and I admire that everyone cares about all the aspects there are to making great coffee/espresso.

What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?

As cliche as this may sound, everything about it, down to where the beans come from. If I had to choose, it'd be making espresso.
