Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
My first coffee experience was as a "barista" (but we didn't know the word yet) in Eugene Oregon in the 70's. Subsequently I roasted specialty coffee for many years, including small independent shops with in-house roasting. I have also worked for Sara Lee/Douwe Egberts, where DE had/has a great interest in developing in-house barista expertise. Currently I am a Coffee Excellence Manager for Dunkin Donuts. This work requires activities from origin to the shop, including product development in espresso and drip coffee.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
I currently travel regularly to Central and South America. I have a great interest in Eastern Europe and Asia. I would also like to travel more in Africa, having had some experience there in Northern Africa in the 70's and in Ethiopia as a Coffee Corps volunteer in 2004.
About Me:
Grew up in eastern Massachusetts, went to school in Ohio, spent 12 years in Oregon, where I started on coffee, returned to Boston, got married, we had a son, realized I needed more money to support a family than I had always made in specialty coffee, got recruited by Sara Lee which moved us to Chicago for 5 years, Went to work for DD, got un-married, and here I am at DD. I enjoy traveling and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean especially with my son Alex.
About My Company:
Dunkin Donuts has served very good quality coffee for close to 60 years; now it seems many of our competitors have come to the same conclusion we did many years ago: that consumers prefer better quality coffee over the often poor quality found both in retail and out-of-home coffee in the USA for many years. DD is very much a part of the fabric of society in our home markets in the East Coast. We have very ambitious expansion plans, both domestically and internationally.
