    About Me:

In 1990, I moved my family to beautiful Newberg Oregon, to convert a one-car garage into a coffee shop. Curious locals would shake their heads in disbelief as I told them I planned on providing for my family by serving up cups of coffee. Soon after opening, the 50¢ coffee and the fun, laid-back coffee shop were a hit. The coffee shop continued to grow with over 30 seats, a bookstore, on-site bakery, deli and as a music venue for local artists. Today, this shop continues to thrive as a community landmark. ….then came roasting. Along my journey with coffee, I began studying this wonderfully complex subject. To some coffee is just a black hot beverage to get you going in the morning, to others a commodity of dollars and cents, and yet to others a passion of their lives. After a trip to Costa Rica, I concluded that in order to pass along the integrity of the product and the people behind the product, I must become a coffee roaster, thus the birth of “Caravan Coffee.” I love the connections in the coffee world and as a coffee roaster. I feel like I am in the middle of this world of coffee where we connect the dots of product, “seed” to “cup”, as well as the people, “farmer” to “consumer.” As an artisan roaster, I believe in highlighting the flavor characteristics of the coffee by attention, on-going education, and “feel” to the ever-changing dynamics of the bean reacting to the flame. The name, Caravan Coffee, represents the on-going journey in seeking out the world for the finest treasures…..java. Our joy comes in sharing this java with you…the people of the marketplace. This treasure is steeped in history, diligence, belief and passion. With every sip, you will drink a thousand stories. Raise your golden cup, oh, drinkers of the java, and prepare to “Taste the Magic!™” I personally invite you to visit us at our roastery where I help maintain the flame on two, 25-pound capacity drum roasters. Our tasting room and roasting facility, located in Newberg, Oregon, is open to the public as a place to watch, learn and experience.
