Just replaced the sight glass valve in my Astoria and "great Oden's raven" that was brutal! In the shop last night till after midnight ( and I opened this morning). Thank goodness for coffee. By far, this was the toughest repair I have done solo. But. Mission accomplished ( and not the GW way).

Yes, far more awkward than it has to be. Congrats on getting it done.
Your replaced the whole assembly? I usually do the glass and gaskets and reuse the metal bits.
Helpful hint #1 that you could have used before starting? Use some tape to mark the distance between the brackets on the edge of your workbench, so you get the assembly right the first time. Helpful hint #2 - get a right-angle ratcheting screwdriver to help get those screws out.
