Profile Information

What is your position in the coffee industry?
barista, home barista, coffee enthusiast
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
Boise, ID, USA
How many years have you been in the industry?
5-6 years
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
I like to keep up on maintaining a properly working machine, be it a espresso machine, grinders, brewers, etc. Also keeping beans, milk, water, etc. as fresh as possible. I try to get my regulars and new guests to try, if they like drip coffee, a french pressed version which is my personal brewing preference. Along with that option, I like to try to get them to try a new drink but within their preferences and/or adjacent to their usual drink, just to keep things interesting. I prefer to use natural sweeteners like honey, agave, maple syrup, molasses, raw sugar, etc. and I would like to start making my own natural syrups like a honey-cherry blossom, or citrus syrup, for lattes/mochas/cappuccino or even drip coffees ( just a little to bring out a certain taste in the coffee it may have already-like nut or citrus).
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
Wherever really. Can I say Seattle and get away with it?
About Me:
Always learning, teaching, talking, living coffee. Sharpening my skills is what I like to do when its slow at the shop, or decorating and/or socializing. Well, outside of coffee, I am an artist of many mediums. I am into natural medicine and like to cook wholesome vegan or vegetarian meals. I do not own a computer so its difficult for me to do things like this. hee hee. Oh and that is what I sound like when I laugh, too.
About My Company:
I work for a local roaster and coffee shop that has been around since 1989, and in 2005 was bought from White Cloud by Dean International. Unfortunately, they have several more franchises around Boise and it feels a bit too corporate for me. It seems they have lost heart for good coffee and pay much attention to profits and business aspects.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
The romance of coffee in itself. The distinguished aromas and complex tastes. Sometimes its like a bouquet of flowers. Sometimes its a smokey mud and is that of the earth. Othertimes its a salad of citrus and nuts. Its a romantic science.
