The company was founded by Christian Wolthers Maraccini and Mikkel Madsen Pilgaard in the summer of 2008.

Coffee has always been a natural part of Christians life, since large parts of his family is involved in the South and Central American coffee industry and very involved in various Specialty Coffee organizations around the world. Alongside his career as Assistant Trader at Wolthers & Associates he completed the cupping and green bean classification programme at Associação Commercial de Santos in Santos, Brazil. When Christian returned to Denmark it was natural for him to try his skills in the Danish coffee industry, where he has worked in coffee sales, as a barista, coffee- lecturer and consultant.

Mikkels interest in Specialty Coffee occurred during a stay in USA, where he worked for a small coffee chain with small roasters in each store. As Mikkel returned to Denmark, it was ideal for him to continue working with good coffee. He has worked as a consultant and freelancebarista for a coffee and machinery importer in Aarhus, where his duties ranged from barista training, catering and sales, serving and distribution at fairs. Since the Mikkel worked full time at a leading danish coffee shop, where he developed his barista skills. Mikkel is one of Denmark's leading Barista and former member of the Danish national SCAE barista team (Specialty Coffee Association of Europe) .

Christian and Mikkel met each other working in the same coffee shop and quickly found out that they shared visions for Specialty Coffee in Denmark. Since they also complemented each other well as colleagues the youngsters saw the possibility to use each other's commitment, expertise and experience to shape and develop the Danish coffee culture. Therefore they decided to join forces and together they named their business Compass Coffee Consulting.
