What is your position in the coffee industry?
barista trainer, industry professional
How many years have you been in the industry?
10
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
About Me:
I started working in the industry as a coffee pourer, there was not much in the way of specialty coffee at the time. I was lucky to land my first job working for Bill and Charlie Fishbein at the Coffee Exchage in Providence. Bill went on to start Coffee Kids and Charlie still runs his very cool cafe on Wickenden Street. During college I worked for Coffee Connection and had the opportunity to work for and train with Mr. Howell. I did what most kids do with a major in English and moved to NYC and started cutting hair. After 8 years as a hairdresser I decided to call it quits and landed a job with an old friend who had just started his own roastery. 5 years later we are a happily growing company trying to elevate coffee here on the East Coast. Wish us luck.

Dear Providence, You will love the coffee!

Posted on April 21, 2008 at 11:30am 4 Comments

In an old warehouse building nestled on the Providence/Pawtucket line a group of coffee folks got together to drink some Narragannsett beer, pull shots, cup and talk coffee. The first RI based coffee jam (to our knowledge) but certainly not the last. From the state who claims coffee milk as the official state drink comes the beginning of a coffee revolution.…

The family will be in tow, yep. That means meals at places the kid can freak out in, and early nights. I plan on getting away this summer, but not until I get the go ahead with buildout. Keep your fingers crossed, and you'll see the Noble clan soon enough!
Enjoy the long weekend!

What's up in the greatest little state in the Union, G?
I'm struggling. Still working toward BEGINNING build out.
We're having a boy in September, so that's cool! Not that it matters, you know, blah blah. Give Devlin a 'hello' for me, and I hope we get as chance to coffee together again soon, maybe up there?
Shoot me a note with some good places to stay, if you've got the time.

Gerra, I found you because of your post about coffee in Providence. Where would you go for an outstanding latte. I tend to go to Coffee Exchange almost every day and hope to get one of the folks that really know their stuff. My friend Helena Parmentier works there and she is fantastic, make some of the best that I have ever tasted. Also, a friend and I started a Providence/RI food site called ProvidencePalate.com, it's been a lot of fun and I have met some other quite passionate foodies there. Best, Seth

Hey Gerra,
It was great fun meeting you and your gang too. When I next explore that area (it is included in our post-Ithaca housing search), I will definitely stop by. I am also continuing to enjoy the Devlin Competition Blend (DCB)! Only now after all the training, I am 10 times more critical of my own shots and over-thinking everything (No dark brown ring on this milky cappa! egads, no flecking! bleck! who made this anyways?) . It'll take some time to get my groove back. Thanks for the BX invite.
