What is your position in the coffee industry?
barista, manager, barista trainer, coffee enthusiast, consultant
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
Annapolis, MD, USA
How many years have you been in the industry?
6
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
The shop that I work in is called "City Dock Cafe." It is located in a cute little downtown area in Annapolis, MD. Everyone that works at City Dock is a fun loving, very interesting person to work with and be around. Most everyone that works here knows how to make latte art and everyone knows how to make a good drink. This job is one of the most fun and interesting jobs that I have ever had. This place won the local "best coffee" award 5 years in a row.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
I would be interested in traveling anywhere if the opportunity came to me. I have never left the country so I would love to go over seas and have a whole new experience with the industry. One of the places that I would really like to visit is Berlin.
About Me:
I am 22 years old and I have lived in the USA all of my life. I have never left the country and I plan on traveling soon. I have been working at different coffee shops for years and I find that I really like to work with coffee. (I had just recently discovered that this existed, and i am pretty excited about it). My favorite things are coffee, music, books and sewing.
About My Company:
City Dock is locally owned by a great owner (he even works with us to serve people sometimes). The company has been in business for 15 years and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. It is right by the water and it's location is adorable.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
Learning new things and meeting new people.

A few months ago the shop that I work at has been bought out by people who live down the street from the old owners. As soon as they took over, they started fixing things that needed to be fixed for a long time.

After a while of fixing things, I think that the new owners realized just how much work it would be for them to completely fix the store. They also have not had any sort of coffee shop experience and know nothing about what it is like to work behind the counter. (The previous… Continue

Thnaks Heather. I am not entirely convinced an Ag school is necessarily the best way to go. In Indonesia, like in other producing countries, there is a Coffee Institute. They run courses on the orticultual aspects of coffee- planting, harvesting, pruning etc. Something like that might be an option in country.

Hi Heather. Interesting posting you put up. I would say "make it happen". Sounds kind of wishy-washy but I know it is how I got from NZ to Java. Takes some time and some confidence. But if you are willing t0o take the leap, and I am assuming at 22 you have no real ties that bind- then it is possible
