I figured, I would write my thoughts on making money in the coffee industry. I have worked for several coffee shops, I have also worked my own coffee concession. I roast beans by pan, yes it's work, but it's also fulfilling, however the question is am I making money? Well honestly I would have to say no, why because although I work for myself I'm glued to the bean, and with that I can't go out and enjoy the coffee scene the way I would like to. Now knowing what I want to do, it's a matter of doing it, I feel now that in order to make money, I'm gonna have to network more, I believe that if I can connect with just 2 like minded individuals we could take over the entire coffee scene, yeah like Starbucks did, I want to see just how long it takes me to make what I consider money in the coffee industry. Right now I have the freedom, just not the money to travel and coffee the way I like.It is my belief that in a year I should be able to travel as I wish, if I apply myself.I market my products to individuals as well companies, anyone with info or leads on how I should go about being more effective, my business depends on word of mouth.Any and all words of wisdom appreciated.Until next time here, I'm your BaristOnDutY.

Are you talking about going on Oprah? Heck, I thought you were talking about going into business.

Naturally, I'd be happy to help a fellow coffee professional spread the love of great coffee!

Sorry. I guess I misunderstood you.

lol! A Starving Artist! Most definitely seems that way.

I've got a business project I've been working on for a long time that I'll be trying to make into a reality in a year or two. If I didn't have these plans, I'd be in!

That's funny you should say that just today I was tell the Wife, I'm probably gonna have to get a real Roaster, I make money doing events and even selling my PAN Roast, but it leave very little time to do other things so I guess until OPRAH or some of the Late Night Guys have me on their show, I'll tread the waters, I have been blessed to be able to look @ Coffee from Art stand point, only problem is most Artist work doesn't make the potential profits till they are no longer here, so I guess you can say I'm trying to unlock my Art Earning Capabilities while I'm still living..LoL I love the Art of PAN Roasting.I mean we are all one step from being wealthy just about finding the right connections.I wont forget you nor JD when Oprah calls me I'll need backup!! We Can Form J3 Java-Junkies-Jewels (Jason,Johnny,Jason) R u in?? ;-)

One thing is certain, and that is that's very difficult to make money without spending it.

Somehow, I've managed to pull it off, to some extent. Traveling, training, and consulting is all I do. Let me just say this. It's sporadic, at best. While I enjoy what I do, it is not, nor was it ever, intended to be the only plan in the grand scheme of things.

I do it because it's what I CAN do from where I am at this point in my life. Frankly, I feel very disconnected from the coffee this way, but more connected than with the immediately available alternative.

In other words, I would say that if your goal is to work in coffee, do it on the side only, and pursue a plan that is independently sustainable from a business standpoint. That probably means something other than pan roasting coffee. Which also probably means financing somehow.

Hey the ultimate goal, is for me to have more time to travel and teach coffee without financial burden, so I thought I would post my thoughts get some input from others, to maybe implement other systems into my current program, which is now I'm a home PAN Roaster, also have a Coffee Networking Company that makes coffee and espresso pods where we give free machines away as long as the client purchases pods from us.In a nut shell I just consider myself a Consultant, because thats probably the core of my businesses. Thanks for your input. BTW Nice Site!!
