Cash Drawer Accountability

Posted on May 19, 2010 at 1:45pm 0 Comments

I thought I'd re-post a portion of my blog / facebook notes on cash drawer accountability here.

Every day here at SelbySoft, we receive calls asking about shortages in the cash drawer. While a number of these are simple mistakes by the crew, theft is an issue as well. If we can make our cash handling employees accountable for the mistakes and shortages, then we are on…

Coffee Fest Seattle 2009

Posted on September 26, 2009 at 7:22pm 0 Comments

I'm home from the second day of coffee fest (with a sinus infection of all things). Thursday was a meet and greet with the guys from Caffe D'arte - Always fun.

Yesterday was the first day we showed our new trade show booth and our new splickit interface. Both were really well received!

I think the show today and yesterday is better than last year. We are seeing more positive people and exhibitors!

It's been a while since I updated the blog here! Yikes!

We are getting ready for Coffee Seattle and looking forward to showing off some new stuff.

New booth - Hartman exhibits has created a brand new look for our trade show booth. First new booth in about 10 -12 years (wow!).

New interface - We will be demoing a new interface with Slickit at the show. Stop by and see how this works!

Coffee Fest Update

Second day of Coffee Fest in the bag! Last night was dinner with Greg, Jan and Chris from Fresh Cup - Manish from Maya tea was along as well.

Today was an interesting day - slightly slower but some good people came by! I'm looking forward to tomorrow and the "tracking sales with technology" seminar I'm doing.

Hi, Mike. Yes, I've seen you on a lot of the forums pertaining to POS systems. Thanks for the message. If you want to shoot me an email with some information, I'd be glad to look it over. SelbySoft is one of the systems we have considered for our coffee bar but we're still very early in the researching process for POS systems. Any information you could give us would be great.

Mahalo,

Courtney

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the response. We have a major requirement for invertory of apparel and gifts. If your system will allow us to maintain our inventory and report on hand quantities at any time. I left you a voice mail.

Hey Mike. Thanks for your message. Like I said before, I've noticed that most people have had a great experience with Selbysoft. I'm not in a position to give out the shop name but I will relay your message to the ownership :-) thanks for being so involved here on Barista Exchange!

Mike,
Your not off base at all. We, you and I, just never got a chance to talk in depth on what I am doing currently with CSM. I have been using the loyility card package/system that came with CSM for the two years we have been open. Works ok. Few customers ever carry there card in and hand it to me on a regular basis. So to solve this I learn their last name. I don't want to have to ask them or trouble them to pull out their card and hand it to me or one of my baristas. So that is why I have been in conversation with you on how to step up to the next level with technology. This again is what I was thinking when I said if my customers came in with a QR code on a Sasquatch Coffee Roasters tee shirt or cup my scanner could snag their last name / call up their record/ deduct the cost of the drink they usually get, all with only a key or two stroke by the checker / barista. Hand them their drink and shorten there time staring at the checker. I think we are on the same page with this discussion. I'm just not sure if CSM or SelbySoft has a scanner that can do this. I hope you come up with it because I want to eventually move away from CSM because of their high annual maintenance fee.
Thanks again for the RFID cup source. I'll check it out.
Sincerely,
Joseph

Very interesting. I do not know the practical operational side of scanning technology, in other words I'm learning from you how the card swipe reads data. I think the bar code scanner reads or looks for a typical bar code so I'm not sure how a QR code is read or what it sees. I have a QR code generator that I can input any kind of data in the form of text or URL's etc. I guess I was assuming that with the right interface or scanner I could just use the customers last name and get the POS software to pull up the account.
Never as simple as it looks to the lay person. I like the cup RFID scan concept. What kind of reader would you guys or I need to read it? My bar code reader?
I sure missed making the complete booth rounds on Sunday. Maybe I can make the Houston Event next year.
Cheers to you Mike Keep up the great work.
Joseph
