I've been using my new Aurelia for about a week. During cleaning, we noticed that the middle group was corroding rapidly. The screen actually began to break away at the edges. Also the disk was stained. Pinkish water began to come out of the group.
Wassup wit dat?
NS is sending replacement parts special D. and seemed to be very concerned in a CS type of way.

Sounds like a very unusual thing to see. Those screens, as well as the ones used by every other manufacturer, are made for them from stainless steel and should not do that.
Glad to hear that they are taking good care of you. What you're experiencing is pretty unusual, and not something that any company wants a customer to go through, so yeah... they'd be concerned in a CS type of way.
The pink water thing is weird. I'm going to echo Joseph's question - what's your water like? You aren't by any chance using an RO system with zero bypass, are you? I've heard of people having issues with some kinds of RO systems and corrosion issues. Given that your water situation is a little different than us landlocked folks, I'm inclined to suspect that your water is causing your issues. Have you had it tested?
I would not drink anything out of this machine till I figured this out. Something sounds very wrong. The only pink stain I have ever dealt with was a fungus that I killed with bleach. If you not using a filtration system, you need one with this machine. I have the same machine in service as I write this. They would not install it in my cafe unless I had one. If you do have a system it most likely needs service NOW.

Nice filter system. same one I have. Pink? I thought copper corrosion was usually green.
Strange...

I'm using an Everpure CSR High Flow water filtration system. The water tastes very good from the faucets. The service tech mentioned the pink sounds like copper corrosion.

I used a test strip on my water today. I found the colors on the package don't quite match the strip so there's a lot of judgment involved. Here's the approximate results:
Total Hardness: 200
Chlorine: 0
Ph: 7.6
Alkalinity: 80
Cyanuric Acid: 0
Thoughts?
James,
Nice likely synopis. Does the water hardness and PH look good to you?

Perhaps it was backflushed and not rinsed, or descaled. was it new? if it had reverse osmosis water in it it can also be corrosive. being only one group I would supect it was not flushed after descal and alowed to sit for a extended period till you hooked it up.
Joe,
off the top of my head I cant remember the ranges, La Marzocco recomends aprox 3-5 grains of hardness (for flavor) but I cant remeber how to convert parts per million to grains. PH should be fairly nuetral or it can be agressive. you should be able to google best water for espresso. there is some blogs at coffeegeek and homebaristta websites that should answer your question.
hope this helps,
Eric
