I am just going to put this out there as is. Anyone have any thoughts on these?

They are both good quality blenders and dont have any noticeable difference in blending. I think that Vitamix blenders are more cost effective to maintain though. Reason being that the parts of the blender bowl disassemble and can be replaced separately where blendtec only sells new bowl and you can only relplace the bowl and not the parts.
I tend to prefer the performance of BlendTec, though Vitamix is no slouch.

The lower end VitaMix blenders are just not worth the savings when it comes down to bar efficiency, so keep a good sized budget allowance.
Any suggestions as to which model is the quietest and most reliable?
I've been debating which to buy as well.
Vita-Mix offers a stronger lasting machine, however this could definitely be argued.
vita mix it's heavy duty strong blender with long lasting blade i know it b coz i use it for a while but i heard that blendtec it's the only competitor of vita mix positive point in blendtec it's always comes w/ 2 blending jars thats mean 2 blades = will last more than vita mix single blade & latest of blendtec Q serries = real quietest than any comercial blender .
this should answer all of your questions...

Is this standard even with the blender buying programs that are through product distributors?

We tested a lot of powder mixes after Coffee Fest (Seattle '06 and Atlanta '07). Folks were real generous in sending samples so we held a couple blender nights at home and had a bunch of teens come in (friends our kids). We did side by side comparisons. We made non-coffee drinks for the most part. Of the different brands we tried Cappuccine won hand down. This was in my Kitchen Aide home blender using store bought ice because it is frozen at a different temperature then a home freezer and it makes great drinks.
Both are good however, the Vita-Mix is a quieter machine. I do have the Db ratings and the Vitamix WITH the sound enclosure wins. They are workhorses and last forever. Get the ones that have the XP blade and you will not go wrong.
BlendTec has bang for the buck! It does have a leg up on value since it comes with two blending jars standard.
As you see from the posts, both are good choices. It comes down to consistency in the drink. The Vita-Mix will make your drink come out smooth like ice cream and the BlendTec has just a tad more texture.
Keep in mind that your distributor (for the most part) will honor the "specials" from Big Train, Jet, Dr. Smoothie, etc. So you can usually score on free product to help offset the cost of the high-end models.
Both are good blenders and fairly comparable. DO BUY THE SOUNDS ENCLOSURE for either. A must unless you have a megaphone to talk to customers thru. :)
counter top model or recessed into the counter models? Does it make a difference in sound or clean up?
I would go with Counter Top... you don't know if you'll be happy with the first place you put them.

I put a high value on flexibility.
Great discussion -

I like both my little Blendtec w/enclosure and Vitamix PBS - but I will say that the jars on the Blendtec don't seem to be as durable (I've had problems both with cracking and degrading gaskets). The Vitamix should almost come with earplugs, but it is nice to have shaved ice available for other drinks as well as the frozen, blended variety. Also - I have had great service for my Vitamix every time.
