this morning i ventured out and ordered a capp from an unassuming cafe(which will remain nameless). harmless sounding yes? no. what followed was gut wrenching. I watched at first confused then agape with horror as the "barista" poured my shot into the steaming pitcher then covered that with cold milk then airated for something like a billion seconds until i could smell the scalded remains of said milk, this was poured into a cup then finished off with a 2nd run-through of espresso of the same puck (!).... how does this equate to delish or even acceptable to a person? terrifying. moments like this morning make me wonder why I'm not doing more consulting gigs... must get cards printed..........

i needed to share that has anyone else seen such crazy things blossom from an unassuming coffee order?

Yes

There really is the sense out there that espresso pucks are reusable. My dad called me last week to tell me that he had fired up his home espresso machine again, and was wondering if I could "train" him on a better way to steam milk. So I asked him to walk me through the process he currently uses for everything - espresso included.

"Well... I grind the coffee really fine, put it into the wand thing, pack it down, and pull a shot. Then I steam the milk and mix it with the shot, and I give that one to your mom. Then, I figure there are probably at least a few more shots I can get out of that coffee, so I pull myself a shot [from the same puck], steam more milk, and have a latte! Your mom says they're better than Starbucks."

Wow. We'll be doing some training, yes.

This, I have never seen...I haven't even encountered this in my worst of nightmares.  I did, once, receive an iced latte that was made by making a regular latte and then pouring it over ice.  Yum.
I just wish you would have taken a picture of it,  I can't really imagine what that looks like.
