Hi, Just trying to find some cups for our place (Jan opening) and was hoping to hear some suggestions. I like the classic clean ones, not writing all over them multi coloured etc. What are the most popular sizes for latte and cappuccino? Is there something in particular I should look for in a good espresso, latte and cappuccino cup? Many thanks as always!

Well written and entertaining... more important for the cup shopper, look at the lower right corner of the photo for the distributor... non other then espressoparts.com

First, define your sizing philosophy. I've observed 2 main camps - the traditional Italian/new American "smaller is better" and the traditional American "generous portions". The relative merits of each philosophy can be found by searching earlier discussions.

At our shop, we do a 4oz (espresso and macchiato), 8oz (double cappuccino and americano), 12 oz mug 'o drip, 16 oz double latte/mocha/vanilla latte "bowl" in ceramic. These are all relatively rugged mugs - thick-walled ceramic, simple lines. This works for us.

I'd say our approach is not typical, with the main difference being that most seem to prefer a 5-6oz cup for cappuccinos and probably shudder at the idea of a 16 oz. We wanted to align our here cups with our go cups for taste consistency and since we sell more mediums than any other size, wanted to have this available.

Hopefully, many others will jump in here too to represent other viewpoints. Good luck.
espressosupply.com is a good source for some simple mugs as well with a good variety of sizes.
Thanks Denise, I feel a bit dirty after reading that blog...but it was entertaining. I do like the classic look and feel of either a brown cup or simple white - guess I'm looking for shape and quality (and not crazy expensive) now.

rattleware makes fantastic shaped cups for pouring latte art, if that's what you're into. a lot of brands will sell cups in 2oz increments, so whatever sizes work for you.
Can someone tell me how to find the article i've discovered cups posted by janelle. I've searched it and nothing came up.

Thanks

Its Janelle's blog, not a article. If you go to the main page on bx there is a link for it on the left hand side.

visionsespresso.com has a great clearance going on sengWare right now. I love it. It's clean and durable. They have all the standard sizes: 12oz., and 16 oz. Good luck Rob.
