What are pros and cons of each and why you chose one over the other? Are there other systems that are specificly geared toward the specialty coffee industry? Thanks for any input.

While I don't think that Selbysoft typically works this way, our experience with them has been dismal.  We didn't receive adequate training or customer support.  I have found the menu system somewhat confusing as well.  Again, I've heard other people have had a great experience with them, but ours was not as such.
We use Coffee Shop Manager.  Overall I have no desire to change programs.  There are a few things here and there that I wish we had (such as an application to check sales from my phone when I am away).  Some of the programming can get confusing, but a call to tech support has ALWAYS been extremely helpful.

I have used selby soft for 4 years and have had only a handfull of problems which Mike Spence made sure where taken care of quickly. The system is very user friendly as a cashier you need just a few mins to understand the software. Programing is a little more tricky but I can figure it out most of the time when I can't they are always willing to help at the support line. The gift card system and frequent coffee card system is zero cost per swipe. We also captured customer email which we used to start a email newsletter. The time clock portion is easy to use. Also the system is easy to set up for different coupons and promotions. The touch screen is easy to use and the printer does not print every reciept unless you want it to.We added a second screen for the to customer screen for the totals and on this screen has several different features you can put up to 8 or 9 pictures that change on the screen you can also run a line of test on the bottom which we use to run specials. It also has the capability to run a set of three smaller pictures on the side of the screen which we have not used yet. But I would advise not to use Mecury payment system to process your credit cards as I did for a while and they had lots of hidden fees and where not nice to deal with.

Explain the Mercury payment system. Is it exclusively tied to SelbySoft?

I dont think those are thier only customers but selby soft does use them when they can. My first store I use pay ment tech and have always so you can use someone different. It was a second location it was easy to sign up but had hassel from the beg. They charge 25 cents for each transation that comes up declined. I had a associate that ran the same card 12 times I had to pay 25 cents for each time because it declined each time. Also after the first year started to hit me with fees for different things $200. at a time so dont trust that what is on the front page is what you pay. Clause 33 of the contrac says something like any fee after the first year is lumped in the clause. When the shop closed they charge $350. dollars to cancel the contract. Sorry for the delay in the answer I took the weekend off

I have had the Selby Soft system for almost a year now and I would be happy to speak with anyone considering them about my experience. Feel free to message me.

I would not recommend Selby Soft.
