Anyone remember their epiphany shot? The first shot that opens up your world to the possibilities of espresso that you had never before considered? The one that stops you in your tracks, blows apart your senses, and makes you question everything? I remember mine was at Caffe Vita in Fremont, on my first visit to Seattle. Their Del Sol blend. It was multi-dimensional; I had never tasted anything like it.

Anyone else have this experience? Or one that sticks out in your mind?

Great topic, ive had a few of these experiences. Sightglass coffee here in San Francisco was one of those. I left with a different understanding of what espresso could be. Also just about every shot at "out of the box" Berkley was amazing. It was great to experience so many mind blowing coffees all at the same time. And Ive even been fortunate enough to have one of these experiences at home. I had given up on roasting dry processed coffees at home, because my results always sucked(tasted like a bowl of quakers every time). I had just received my new roaster (quest) and was just burning threw coffee just to get a feel for my new baby. One of the coffees I used was a DP Ethiopian, well a couple days later my curiosity go the best of me and I brewed all those test coffees as espresso. The DP Ethiopian was AMAZING! So sweet! That experience renewed my vigor for DP, and for roasting for espresso. In fact I have some DP Ethiopian in the mail right now!

Hmm, difficult question. Glad you asked! It must have been at Intelligentsia in downtown Chicago when they were pretty young. I think it was a cortado/macchiato that I got. This was back when they had Black Cat for espresso & I believe that was all. I remember shortly after this there was an article in the paper about how they were discontinuing their 20oz size. I think their quote was to the effect of, "our coffee isn't Jug Wine".

It was at Kopplin's in St. Paul. It was a Havanna espresso that had such intense notes of pipe tobacco that they serve the demitasse in an ash tray rather than a saucer. It totally rocked my world. 

It was from a coworker, not too long ago. Small 4oz or so soy "in-house capp" with one shot. We had just started to figure out better standards for shots and milk temp/texture. Purely sensory, but definitely profound.

When I was about  17 this girl at a shop in east lansing pulled these amazing shots. They were so heavenly I wanted to lick the bottom of the cup but my tong was to short. I ended up trading lessons with her. I taught her how to froth milk and she taught me her shots. I don't think mine ever got as good as that first taste. To bad they closed like 5 years ago.
