Hey everyone,

Im new here and my family and I are in the process of buying a coffee shop in our town. My daughter has been working there for a year and they do a great business, my wife and I always said, what a gold mine that place is and if ever goes for sale we should buy it. Well it did go for sale and we are now in the process of buying it. Just submitted the business plan to the bank and now waiting for the funding approval.

The shop is located Bergen County NJ. Does about 350 - 450 customers a day. Uses about 500 pounds of coffee a month.

Gets all its beans from a very larger commercial company, so the bean quality is not great. The Baristas are mostly High school kids and not trained.

The equipment is very old and not that good.

Our plan is the replace all the equipment, go with top roasters (like intelligentsia),
get everyone trained and offer the best quality coffee around.

Look forward to chatting with everyone here.

Well I found out it only has a one year warranty. I just have to see if there is service in Northern NJ.
Got a close date, 9/12.

Now we get to order all the new equipment. Should be up with all the new stuff in 4 - 8 weeks from now.
First group of Staff is set to go to the Intelligentsia training center in NYC. Cant wait to go. Maybe I'll treat the team to dinner at Nobu after the training.

Whats really cool about all of this is my whole family is involved. My daughter is already working at the shop, my son (he picks the beans) is taking off a semester to help run the shop and my wife will be managing it day to day.
I'll just enjoy drinking great coffee, lol.
Exciting times! Congrats on the plunge into owning a shop. One thing my wife and I learned is that you may initially consider only 30-50% of the necessary tasks of running your own shop (like we did) and find out that it's a LOT more work... but thankfully it is also a LOT of fun if you do it right.. (as it sounds like you will do). Great to have the family involved in such a fun business. Sounds like success! Again, Congrats and good luck.

Wanted to give a update. Its been a 1.5 months now in the new shop, I must say its alot of work for my whole family, but we are enjoying it. We have all the new equip up and running, including the clover (what a amazing machine). Everyone is loving the Intelli beans. We have gotten rid of all the existing regular coffee beans that were in use. People are coming in just for the clover. Now we have to deal with all the things one deals with in running a shop. Including staff issues (thats a challenge). If anyonme here is in the Northern NJ area, come on in and say hello.

We also have live music 4 nights a week.
